Blake Foster
Liver Recipient
Glenville, WV
When Blake Foster was 3-years-old, he was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, the most common liver cancer in children. He began a grueling six-month chemotherapy treatment with the hopes that it would shrink his tumor so that it could be removed surgically. Unfortunately, the tumor did not shrink. Doctors told Blake’s parents that a liver transplant was his only chance at survival.
“We were beside ourselves—the news was overwhelming,” remembers his mom, Tammy. “We had never known anyone who had gotten a transplant. We didn’t know how it was all going to happen.”
As Blake waited for a new liver, he became sicker and sicker. Then two days before Easter, the Fosters got the call they had been waiting for.
“On Easter morning a child gave up their life so that my son could live,” Tammy says. “It was a Resurrection—not just for Blake, but for his donor who, after death, would live on through my son.”
Blake is now a 11-year-old, 5th grader who’s an honor roll student and, according to his mom, “the happiest kid you’d ever know.”
